The most exciting news ever!!!

15 Apr

So yesterday I was talking to my BFF, I’ll call her KT, and we were talking about working out, getting fit, and the goodness of cake, and she confessed to me that she really wanted to incorporate running in her life.  At that very moment, I heard dramatic music and the sky opened up, and all the sun in my world came out.

Why is this a big deal?  Well, first,  I LOVE this girl.  She is super amazing, supportive, and probably knows me more than I know myself.   We are god parents of each others daughters and most importantly we are one of the few people who each other can stand for long periods of time.  We have been through so much together, including being behind bars (well, for about 2 hours) and me sitting under a table in her delivery room as she was giving birth to her first child.  So it just makes me want to jump for joy to know that we will be able to conquer running together.  Additionally, we decided to do the Komen 5K Race for the Cure on the National Mall in June.  This will be KT’s first and my second.  I committed that I would run with her once a week.  She is doing the same version of the C25K program I started in January.  So I am hoping I can help her get through it.

Today was day one for her.  (more…)

Not your average G-rated post

3 Apr

Forewarning, this post might contain inappropriate content.

So I don’t know if its lack of some very vital adult activity or if it’s a connection that everyone makes that is randomly just dawning on me.  But while working out yesterday…it hit me how dirty minds could have a great time in a gym facility.

Now not saying I have a dirty mind.  Truthfully, I’m as innocent as an untouched nun.  But other, not so angelic people could get really excited by some of the things that go on in the gym.

For instance, yesterday, as I was on my thigh abductor/adductor thingie (more…)

Running on the sunny side

30 Mar

I’m writing you all from West Palm Beach, Florida. Got in yesterday. Had a few crazy first day teaching moments probably due to the lack of sleep the night before (a record low 23mins). Nothing as bad as walking in to class without pants, but let’s just say, a few west palm kids are really confused about the meanings of a few words courtesy of yours truly. Oops!

So I gotta make this short because I am in a hotel that thinks free wireless Internet is just a little too much customer service. I could pay, but I don’t like paying for things I can steal for free. Thus, I’ll deal with posting on my phone, sans all the pretty pictures.

Thanks to all your encouraging words, about my loserville run, I got up and ran today at 7:30am. (more…)

A Low Down Dirty Shame

27 Mar

If you looked up shame in the dictionary, you would find a picture of me with my lip poked out, and a caption that reads “Bgirl875′s run week”.

Today I got out for my, dare I say it, FIRST run of the week.  Yep, it sucks I know.  I have been super swamped getting work out of the way to be away for 13 days starting on Monday.  So in the mornings, I could run.  However, going to sleep every night at 3am, just doesn’t make for a happy 6:30am runner. I did workout on Tuesday with my BFF and although it was more like a chat fest than a workout, it counted.  But today, I don’t know if I can even count whatever the hell that was that I was doing as running. Ask an Expert, Part One

20 Mar

Hi Blog Buds meet ANGEL STONE.

Angel is a lot of things that you can read about here but most importantly she is my favorite personal trainer/fitness goddess and the other person outside of RRBA I call my She-Ro.

If you checked out my post two weeks ago about Beating the Competition, you’ve already got a little glimpse of her hilarious and educational blog Fit & Hungry. If you haven’t go check it out now, and I’ll wait.  OK, you back? Funny, huh?

Well, apparently, my comments on her ridiculously sick body flattered her enough to commit to letting me interview her on my blog.  (more…)

Challenge-Conquered

19 Mar

So there’s this really AWFUL hill on my run route.  I hate this hill, it sucks pig butt and goat balls both at the same time.  Every time I go out, I feel it looking up at me laughing.

In my head, it feels like I’m running up this:

In reality, it is not that bad.  But it is about 600m of nice sized incline and it sits 3 miles into my run.   So needless to say, at about 3 miles, I’m already talking my legs out of walking AND the last thing I need is some damned hill laughing at me.

Today, was a good day.  I woke up, feeling very brave.  I walked up to my running group said hello and you won’t believe this but (more…)

LOST

Yes, just like this poor puppy.  I’m lost! (more…)

Race Week, Day 1

23 Feb

So it is officially race week.  And more importantly, only two more workouts left in the “non-(beginner) C25k program”.

My task for today was a long jog for 25-30 mins.

I overreached and ran with my Personal Trainer Triathlete cousin.  We did the race course short .03 miles because we couldn’t figure out the EXACT turnaround point.

Maybe not the best idea for my body during race week but great for my confidence.  My goal was to finish in 27mins.  And I finished right at 27mins, (more…)

Week Six, Day 4 + Recovery Run

20 Feb

So I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about Day 4.  It was basically a repeat from the 3rd run last week.

Task: Run at the fastest pace you can handle for 10 mins & Repeat.  Learning from last weeks (Dry heaving episode) I took it down a notch and ran 7.2 mph the first run and 7mph the second run.

It was a good run.  I got my second glimpse at the awful performance rehearsal going on at noon.  I think I have to stay away from the G at the time they are there, because I just can’t watch bad dancing (I’m a dance snob, I know).  Also, they were clearly annoyed that I was interrupting their preparations for stardom.  The inner me wanted to scream “damn it, this is a G(ym) not a dance studio.”  But I realize my days in there are numbered, as the weather is starting to break.  So I just took in the view and put in my time.

Today, I decided to “take it to the streets” (I am so bad a$$) for my first run outdoors.  (more…)

Feed me, Seymour

19 Feb

This is clearly NOT a pre-race meal.  Actually this should NEVER be considered a meal period.  Well, unless the words spare-tire, love-handle, or thick-in-the-middle are considered compliments on your side of town.

But this is how I’ve been feeling lately…Running has turned me into a man-eating plant that goes around trying to pulverize any and everything in my way.  Especially Carbs…Carbs are my new best friend.  And my fanny, she’s a happy one these days because even though I am jiggling away at her 3xs a week on the treadmill, she replenishes her energy through the massive amounts of carbs I unsuccessfully avoid daily.

However, my biggest issue is finding out what to eat before a workout (that won’t make the poopie come down) and what to eat after a workout (that won’t encourage the calories I just burned to come-a-creeping on my left butt cheek). (more…)
