Race one…Check!!!

1 Mar

Ok, so can I first apologize for the lack of updates?

I was in major head case mode this weekend. During the 48 hours leading up to the race, I think I might have contemplated EVERY possible situation in the world where this race was concerned. I was psyching myself out completely and needed someone to give me a firm kick in the butt. However, if they did, then I’d worry about whether I could race on a sore butt. Can you say, “someone call the shrink because Bgirl875 is looking for the purple banana” (anyone get that reference?!? …probably not, oh well!)

Today I woke up to WORST nightmare on record! The weather forecast had changed from 47 and sunny to 36 with possible snow/rain shower before noon. I felt a lump in my throat and prayed that I wouldn’t look out the window and see rain. I decided Jesus and I needed to have a conversation. We caught up on life and then I went in for the kill (probably not appropriate in a conversation with Jesus) but I had to BRIBE him for a clear day, and he gave it to me. But apparently, I should have asked for a CLEAR SUNNY DAY with light wind because that I did not get. I gathered my stuff (which had been packed since Saturday afternoon) made PB & HONEY toast, and met my race partner outside. We were on our way…and I was still freaking out. (more…)

The Jogger

24 Feb

So I like to find theme songs for big events in my life.  These theme songs I usually play on my victory ride home…blasting through my very cheap car speakers, annoying everyone in sight.  But I think special moments deserve the right to have a song to commemorate the occasion and, well, I think running my first 5k qualifies.

So I was looking for a theme song all day (and pretty much avoiding any remnants of work in the process) for Sundays race…and I still haven’t found one.

But I did find this interesting little masterpiece.  Apparently written by Shel Silverstein, who I love.  But somehow I’ve never heard of this so I wanted to share with you.

Random right?  And a little quirky.  Like me.  But since Mr. Bare’s voice kind of makes me want to throw up in my mouth then shoot myself in the foot, probably NOT the best choice for a theme song for running.

Thus, I’m still on the hunt.  Please let me know if anyone has any good suggestions.

Race Week, Day 1

23 Feb

So it is officially race week.  And more importantly, only two more workouts left in the “non-(beginner) C25k program”.

My task for today was a long jog for 25-30 mins.

I overreached and ran with my Personal Trainer Triathlete cousin.  We did the race course short .03 miles because we couldn’t figure out the EXACT turnaround point.

Maybe not the best idea for my body during race week but great for my confidence.  My goal was to finish in 27mins.  And I finished right at 27mins, (more…)

Week Six, Day 4 + Recovery Run

20 Feb

So I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about Day 4.  It was basically a repeat from the 3rd run last week.

Task: Run at the fastest pace you can handle for 10 mins & Repeat.  Learning from last weeks (Dry heaving episode) I took it down a notch and ran 7.2 mph the first run and 7mph the second run.

It was a good run.  I got my second glimpse at the awful performance rehearsal going on at noon.  I think I have to stay away from the G at the time they are there, because I just can’t watch bad dancing (I’m a dance snob, I know).  Also, they were clearly annoyed that I was interrupting their preparations for stardom.  The inner me wanted to scream “damn it, this is a G(ym) not a dance studio.”  But I realize my days in there are numbered, as the weather is starting to break.  So I just took in the view and put in my time.

Today, I decided to “take it to the streets” (I am so bad a$$) for my first run outdoors.  (more…)

Week Six, Day 2

18 Feb

Just to make sure, I got in all my workouts this week, I did two back to back. (oh sorry, that was my right hamstring yelling for dear life…)

Task today:

Alternate 1 min sprints with 1 min jogs.  The program doesn’t actually give a specified time, so I made up my own.

4min walk (@4mph) then 20 mins of alternates.  Walk 1 minute (@4mph) Jog 3 mins (@6mph).  Please excuse the ADD run.  My body was still a little sore and I hadn’t eat (more…)

Week 5, Day 4

15 Feb

This is late…oooooohhhhhh so late.  The last few days have been crazy busy as I anticipated.  This day was my run as fast as you can day…quick note, I actually dry heaved from several moments.  It was not pretty.

My task:

Run as fast as you can sustain for 10 mins and record mileage covered.  (7.4mph or 1.25 miles covered) then repeat.

To give you an idea of how crazy the week was, I didn’t get around to doing the workout until 10pm Friday night. (more…)

Week Five, Day 3

11 Feb

Today it occurred to me.  I am not numbering my workouts properly.  When I started, I remembered asking myself whether I should number by workout days (1,2,3) of days in the week (2, 4, 6.)  I decided on one or the other, not sure now which one I picked.  But neither is correct.  I workout on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays.  This week, I will workout on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday since this program requests 4 workouts this week.

With that said, I am not changing it not simply because I don’t feel like doing it.  It’s too much work to go back and confusing to start from here doing it differently.  I run 3-4 days per week and teach high impact dance 6 days a week.  The only excuse I have for being too lazy to correct it is, I have to be lazy with something.  So this is it =P

My task for today: SPEED WORK!!!! (more…)

Week Five, Finally. Day 1

9 Feb

Goodness it seemed like I would never finish that last (remix week) but I did.  FINALLY!

Today’s task:

20 min Run (@ 5.8-7.0mph).  Stop and let heart rate return to normal, then REPEAT!  For a total of 40 mins running.

It’s hard for me to fathom that people actually run for 3-4 hours at a time.  My despise disbelief just can’t accept that humans can really run that long.  Like all of me part of me secretly thinks that if you had a hidden camera on them you’d surely catch them walking, biking, teleporting themselves for a good 2 hours of that time.  Confession, the hater in me has definitely googled “facts about marathon running” in attempt to find proof that people do not run for that entire distance.   But apparently people do. All that to say, it’s probably not acceptable to some that I am whining about two 20 min runs.   But since this is MY BLOG I reserved the right to say “it’s my party and I whine if I want to.” (more…)

I Get It From My Mama

9 Feb

…And now studies show, it might not be a bad thing.

My name is Bgirl875 and I have a PHAT A$$…I admit it.

I’ve always had crazy proportions from my waist to my booty. Currently, I’m sporting a 27 inch waist and 39 inch butt. That’s more than a 40% difference and produces a butt on which you can literally hang things. I’ve heard every comment known to man about the size of my bottom. I once had a well-known celebrity stop me in a store and ask “whether my back hurt supporting an A$$ like that?” Pretty much the worst moment in my life. People can be cruel. As a result, I’m pretty sure I bordered anorexia for a good portion of my young adult years. I don’t know which was worse, the way my body looked or the attention I received from it. All I know is that my booty overshadowed my entire being and I wholeheartedly resented it for most of my life. (more…)

Week Four, Day 5 (remix)

8 Feb

So apparently mother nature decided that in addition to insisting that I do my speed work on the hamster wheel, that I had no real need to post about the experience prior to now.  Darned snow and loss of internet.  But I am back, with a vengeance.  Ok. Not really with a vengeance but I am back.  And happy to report, that my last task for “remix” week was great.

Speed work:

Alternate 100m runs/100m walks for 15mins, then finish with a light jog of 5 mins. (walks@4mph/runs@6.8-8.2mph)

As this is my second time around, I’ve improved my mile to meter conversions which made speed work a lot easier.  I also made sure I maxed out at 20% above my current maximum speed of 6.8mph.  I admit compared to last week, today’s run was a walk in the park.  (more…)
