On the road to recovery…

17 Jun

I got up this morning, and fought my way out of bed and to the park to join my group run.  I hadn’t seen  my run dawgs in about 2 weeks and I was sure I was getting my butt kicked.  As a result, I spent 25 minutes hoping it would thunderstorm. It NEVER did!

I won’t go into a long sordid story about how I was partnered with a newbie runner that fed me her dust for 3 miles straight, or how my obliques and lower abs felt like Satan was taking a smoke break on them.  The short version is, it was difficult!!!  I did a little over 3 miles in 28:45 minutes, then at the command of my body, switched to intervals for 1.5 miles (alternating sprints 150 meters/walk 100 meters) for a total miles 4.55 in 47 minutes/average pace 10:23.

I can live with that!  I also went to Ballet tonight.  Jeez!!!  The preparation for this new job is KILLING my body.  However, it’ll all make sense when I step in to teach my first class.  Those students have NO idea what’s coming their way.

In other news, my favorite trainer, Miss Angel Stone AKA my girl crush, is having a great discussion on her blog, Fit and Hungry, about why African-American women don’t statistically exercise as much as their fairer skinned counter parts.  The discussion has stemmed from an interview she did on the founders of BlackGirlsRun.  It’s  a cool post.  So when you get a chance mosey on over there and chime in.  Then come back here and play with me, Ok?!

Toddle-Loo (I don’t think I’ve ever wrote that out, and am sure it’s not spelled right, but you get the point!  If not, it’s synonymous with Laters! )

It’s been exactly 12 days since my last post, and I have so much to tell you all.

First, even though you haven’t heard much from me, I HAVE been running.  I’ve done a few morning runs with KT and my usual group runs, of which I am growing SUPER bored.  I’m at the point where I just put my headphones on from the start in hopes that the same old route will feel different with a different soundtrack.  But alas… (more…)

Good week, so far

22 Apr

Things I’m proud of so far this week:

I searched PROUD in google images and this is what came up...

Hi DC, I’m back

14 Apr

…and my legs are on display in Adams Morgan!

No, I wasn’t celebrated with a statue in my honor.  The reality is that they detached from my body during my run today and slithered away from me in hopes of escaping the beating they were taking.  Darn It!  That four miles was CRUCIAL!

When I was away I decided that when I do these group runs, I was going to make an effort to keep it moving at a good pace and not just run just to be out there.  We usually stop every few minutes for lights, and it makes for a really lazy run.  Today,  the universe must have heard my new commitment because we absolutely made every light…which should have been a good thing given I wanted to work harder.  However, while my mind was on board, my body didn’t get the memo. Ask the Expert: The Conclusion

7 Apr

I got the best email today from Miss Angel Stone AKA Fitness Goddess/Personal Trainer/She-Ro/Amazing Muscles-Haver/Fellow Running Addict.  The answers to your “running” questions from my previous post entitled “Ask The Expert”.  For those of you that missed it, here is the skinny.  My awesome personal trainer, Angel Stone, was gracious enough to answer questions from readers on the topic of running.   She got some really great questions, and here are her really great answers. Not your average G-rated post

Forewarning, this post might contain inappropriate content.

So I don’t know if its lack of some very vital adult activity or if it’s a connection that everyone makes that is randomly just dawning on me.  But while working out yesterday…it hit me how dirty minds could have a great time in a gym facility.

Now not saying I have a dirty mind.  Truthfully, I’m as innocent as an untouched nun.  But other, not so angelic people could get really excited by some of the things that go on in the gym.

For instance, yesterday, as I was on my thigh abductor/adductor thingie (more…)

Ask an Expert, Part One

20 Mar

Hi Blog Buds meet ANGEL STONE.

Angel is a lot of things that you can read about here but most importantly she is my favorite personal trainer/fitness goddess and the other person outside of RRBA I call my She-Ro.

If you checked out my post two weeks ago about Beating the Competition, you’ve already got a little glimpse of her hilarious and educational blog Fit & Hungry. If you haven’t go check it out now, and I’ll wait.  OK, you back? Funny, huh?

Well, apparently, my comments on her ridiculously sick body flattered her enough to commit to letting me interview her on my blog.  (more…)

Challenge-Conquered

19 Mar

So there’s this really AWFUL hill on my run route.  I hate this hill, it sucks pig butt and goat balls both at the same time.  Every time I go out, I feel it looking up at me laughing.

In my head, it feels like I’m running up this:

In reality, it is not that bad.  But it is about 600m of nice sized incline and it sits 3 miles into my run.   So needless to say, at about 3 miles, I’m already talking my legs out of walking AND the last thing I need is some damned hill laughing at me.

Today, was a good day.  I woke up, feeling very brave.  I walked up to my running group said hello and you won’t believe this but (more…)

My Very First and Well Overdue Review

17 Mar

This is super late but in my defense, I couldn’t find a place to post this comment/feedback on the website.  So instead I’m posting here.  Maybe someone for Runner’s Training Guide will Google “Running black girls” and come across this post to get some insight/feedback on their training guide.  If not, then maybe you guys know someone looking for a C25k program that might benefit from the review.

So without further adieu…

Thinking Sunny thoughts!

12 Mar

So in two weeks I’m heading south for work in West Palm Beach, FL.   Two whole weeks in the florida sun!

In preparation for my trip, I am not only purchasing bathing suits, sunscreen and shorts.  But also, trying to find the best places to run because it is my dream to run on the beach in a sexy red bathing suit just like a hot Baywatch girl (sans heavy lifeguarding equipment).

Disclaimer: I really don't look like this in my bathing suit

Anyway, I know nothing about West Palm Beach really, except that sadly it’s very far from most of my Florida blog buddies.  So if anyone has suggestions for places to run, I’ll take them.

And HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
