Opening the book, a little. I promise this isn’t a trick!

3 Mar

Apparently you guys are getting antsy about me not revealing my identity.  In my defense, I have given you guys a physical description of myself and truthfully the picture on my “About Me” page really does look like the toy version of me.  However, you want more.  I get it.  I’d want more.  As a matter of fact, I’d be trying to figure it out as I’m reading.

So since I know that friendship is built on getting to know people, I wanted to answer some wacky interview questions about myself.  Maybe this will help you get to know me better without a picture.  But in time, yes, I will reveal my identity.  As soon as I become comfortable enough with calling myself a runner, oh and I hit my goal of finishing a half marathon with a good pace.  That should only take about 56 years =P

Enjoy!

If you were an animal what kind of animal would you be?

This one is easy, I’ve always wanted to be a bird so I could fly to any place I wanted without paying airport tax.  Or that damn luggage fee.  What the hell is that?  I also think it’d be cool to go around pooping on people who do mean or annoying things.

If you were a Star Trek character, which one would it be?

I know you guys are all expecting me to pick the one black guy.  But I wouldn’t simply because I don’t know his name.  Actually, I wouldn’t be a Star Trek character because Captain Kirk’s (William Shatner) face scares me and if I lived on the Starship Enterprise, I’d have to live in fear every day.  But if I were forced to pick, I guess I’d be him and never look at my reflection.

You are invited to a large cocktail party at a country club. When you arrive, the room where the party is being held is already over half full of people. How do they react to you when you enter the room?

If it’s filled with people who know me, I assume they’d come over and greet me with a hug.  My friends are pretty touchy feely.  But if they’re strangers, I think they might stare at my hair.  I have a lot and it’s usually styled interestingly.  Not Medusa interesting, but cool curly interesting.

Why are manhole covers round?

I don’t know maybe so when they blow, they don’t stab people with pointed ends.  This questions sucks!

What is your favorite drink?

Thai Iced Tea, basically the sweetest possible drink one could have.

What would I find in your refrigerator right now?

You want interesting things, right?  Clearly I have food in there but also a lot of outdated items.  I mean to throw them away but I forget until it’s been way too long.  The oldest thing I’m going to guess has a sell by date of 1/2006.  I probably shouldn’t be sharing that.

What is the last book you read?

I’m reading The Four Agreements now.  Prior to that, it was probably a random manual in theater or photography.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional with whom would it be?

No one.  I actually enjoy being me.  Plus, what if I liked their life better, then had to come back to mine?  That’d suck!!!

What was the last movie you went to see?

Wolfman.  I screamed the entire movie.  Why so much gore? Is it really necessary to see someone’s fingers ripped off? Gross!!!

If aliens landed in front of you and, in exchange for anything you desire, offered you any position on their planet, what would you want?

Ok, I’m slightly lost on this question…What position would I want or what would I desire in return for said position?  I would ask more questions.  And as a result probably be shot with a green slime gun and be forced to face their leader who I ‘m guessing would look like William Shatner.  Oh, the horror!!!

If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be?

I feel like I’ve answered this before by saying I wouldn’t want to be anyone else.  But apparently these questions are persistent.  I guess, Cinderella, but after she marries the Prince.  Mainly because I think you appreciate something much more when you have to struggle to get it.  I appreciate the struggle, really I do!

If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with the time?

Invent a machine that extends life.  This question is hard for a mom.  I can’t imagine having to live without my daughter or leaving her motherless.  Breaks my heart to think about it.  Now, I’m sad…damn you, quiz!!

If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?

Pay for my child to go to college (which will take about half of it)  Pay off my debt and that of my immediate family, then invest a portion in each of their names.  Start an arts foundation for lower-income children because I think ALL kids should have access to the arts.  And start an arts program incubator.

If you were written about in the newspaper, on the front page, what would the headline say?

Run, Black Girl, Run: Defying Stereotypes and Fighting Cellulite with Every Step

Who do you like best, you mom or dad?

Because I was raised by my mom, I would probably want to say her.  However, I have inherited so many qualities (not to mention life) from my dad as well.  So I would say, I like them both.  However, I didn’t like some of my father’s behaviors.

What kind of people do you dislike?

I think I would have to say I don’t really dislike people.  But I do dislike with a passion some of their behaviors.  The worst for me is not giving any thought or care to the effect that one has on others.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how happy are you?

10-I love my life.  I love that I was raised with a good understand of accountability, responsibility, empathy, and the belief that I can create and be anything I want.  I also love having experienced the greatest love that any person can experience outside of spiritual love-the love one has for and from their child.  I am also happy that I ‘ve learned that while situations can temporarily change your mood and even alter what life looks like for you, happiness is a permanent choice you can always make.

If you want to know more, please feel free to ask me.  I’m really an open book, without pictures =P

Laters,

An anonymous black girl who despises running

*ps, these questions are from a web article entitled Weird and Wacky Interview questions.

The Four Agreements is a pretty decent book. I read it a few years back for a bookclub. My mother-in-law pretty much follows it to the letter.

Yeah, I am struggling through the first couple of pages, but my mom says to keep reading because it’s a little boring in the first. Sort of like Celestine prophecy. Which was a great read, sans the first 10 pages…

    Half-marathon eh? :)

This right here: I also love having experienced the greatest love that any person can experience outside of spiritual love-the love one has for and from their child.

    So true!

Good answers! I feel the same about my kiddos and I love your position on happiness; I feel the same way–all life is a choice, so choose well.

But I do hope you grow to love running or at least to not hate it. (Again, really just a choice…)

I am trying to get there, girl. Lately I am noticing myself anticipating my run days, which means, it won’t be long now…

    Ps love your blog!!!
